When we moved up here our goal was to go to NYC at least once during each season. So far we've been there in the Summer (when I was super preggo and waddling into Starbucks constantly to find a decent restroom), Fall, and Spring. Our next trip needs to be at Christmas.
This Spring trip was last minute, I saw the weather forecast for the upcoming weekend and quickly started strategizing how to make this trip to the City on a dime and with as little stress on our part with wrestling Kate on the train. Thankfully, we were able to get a free hotel suite in the financial district which proved to be perfect. Quiet, new to us, and the suite was huge! Then I figured we could cut down our train time with our very on-the-go toddler by driving to Stamford, a closer train station, and catching it from that point. Ended up being a little cheaper and we were able to keep our princess more content...less stress for us. :)

We made it to Grand Central around 9am and checked in early then made our way to Central Park. It was a GORGEOUS day! Kate enjoyed people and bird watching. She got her park fix enjoying the great children areas. By the time it was time to leave we had one exhausted Katerbug. We grabbed lunch at the Shake Shack and sat outside to eat. On the way back to the hotel Kate fell asleep in the stroller and when we got to the hotel room and tried to transition her to the pack n' play she got a 2nd wind and wasn't interested in napping. So we had a little quiet time in the room and then back out we went to do more exploring.
I really wanted to take Kate to FAO Schwarz so we made our way down to Times Square and walked from there. This was about an hour before they would find the truck with the car bomb. When we walked into FAO Schwarz I'm pretty sure Kate was convinced this was heaven. We took her up to see the piano, the legos, but I think her favorite were the stuffed animals. She was funny though, there wasn't any specific one that caught her eye. So we got her a lab puppy stuffed animal (since she's head of heels for the lab next door)...we've tried to get her to play with him over "Bear" but it just isn't happening. There's no replacement for her little friend we call "Bear". You'll see him in many of these pictures...he doesn't leave her side.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped at Pinkberry. Delicious! Kate would have loved it, but she fell asleep on the way. So we headed back to the hotel and did Mexican takeout for dinner. Kate slept great and went down around 8pm and didn't wake until about 7:30am.

We had breakfast at our hotel and went across the street to see the Statue of Liberty. Our hotel was down at Battery Park, perfect view of the water and there was conveniently another park for Kate to burn some energy. Honestly, I was pretty spooked about the whole bomb scare and was ok with heading on back home. So we took a cab back to Grand Central and grabbed a quick lunch and took our train back into Connecticut.
The whole trip was so fun and spontaneous...which is something I never thought we'd be able to do with a child.
