Fall Trip to Maine

First off...this is my 300th post?!?!?  How did that happen?  I really need to make this into a book for memory's sake. 

We took our foursome up to Portland, Maine for a couple days and had a great time...albeit a rainy time.  It was foggy and rainy pretty much the entire time so we cut our trip a little short so we could enjoy some laid back time at home too.  It took us about 4 hours to get up north and it was a bit chilly but more muggy than anything.  We stayed at Embassy Suites..,

Yes, we were attempting to have a family vacation that we could drive to instead of fly and were still close to an airport.  The noise wasn't bad at all though.  We got our fill of lighthouses, cobblestone streets from the 1700's (or maybe just the 1990's when the downtown area was revitalized) and salty air.  

We even made our way up to Freeport to see the flagship L.L. Bean store and eat some lobster bisque.  Kate got to see HUGE trout up close and giant brown bears (stuffed of course) up close as well.  

We went to the DeLorme store and saw the biggest model globe in the world.  Sadly it was not turning...as the world does...because of mechanical issues.  Still it was fun for Kate to see.

Two different times we even ran into fellow Razorbacks!  Such a treat all the way up in Maine!

All in all the trip was wonderful...fast but wonderful.  We've learned since having kiddos and trying to have "vacations" that it's worth it to make these memories but keep our expectations low.  Afterall we are still waking up with a 7 month old a couple times a night, trying to squeeze in naptimes so our kids don't have major meltdowns, and we can't quite sit and have a leisurely glass of wine and plate of cheese with two very active children on our hands. 

But all in all memories WERE made.

We can't wait to one day bring them back and show them this area of the country...where it will always say on their birth certificate they were born.
