This was our first trip just the two of us since Kate's been born...don't get me wrong we missed our girl, but we enjoyed every minute of it just being us. My Mom was in town and offered to keep Kate for the day while we took the train into the City. I wasn't worried about Kate whatsoever...it was me that I was worried about! Kate and DotDot had a great time hanging out inside on a VERY rainy day in New England. Chris and I, however, ran in the rainy city (as you will see our pictures are not exactly quality pics, or simply non-existent...internet pics will have to suffice) all day but loved EVERY minute of it. We grabbed a quick bite for breakfast once we got in, then took the subway uptown to visit the Frick Collection.
I have to say it was far above my expectations. Because they don't allow children you're able to get up close to each piece of art. The museum is setup in what was built to be the mansion home of Henry Clay Frick, up on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. The art was beautiful, but we were equally as impressed to see how this industrialist lived in the early 1900's.
After getting our art fix, we jumped through rain puddles and a stinky subway system to get to Artisanal Bistro for yummy fondue and mimosas. It was a great restaurant to experience without children. Are you starting to see our theme? Doing everything we couldn't do with children. After we got our fill of cheese and carbs, we went to Columbus Circle to do some shopping in a dry area. From there we made our way to Union Square Cafe for the bar nuts...that's right, bar nuts.
They are roasted fresh daily and are SO tasty! We got there around 3:45pm, right when they supposedly come out fresh the oven. They were perfect for a rainy afternoon snack. We concluded our visit by making our way to Kee's Chocolates in hopes of getting to taste their Creme Brulee chocolates. Unfortunately they had already sold out by 2pm. We picked out an assortment of creative chocolates ranging from passion fruit to cognac, to bring home to DotDot...along with some Magnolia Bakery cupcakes.
We had a great time together just hanging out, having meals at a leisurely pace, and being able to really focus on each other. When we got home Kate was so sweet, she just kept looking at me and giggling. Melted this Momma's heart to hear that she did great for her DotDot but had moments during the day where her little lip quivered and she noticed I was missing. Thank you DotDot for taking care of our Katerbug and giving us a day to enjoy the city!
